Julie Cohen
Director/Producer

Julie is a documentary filmmaker and the founder of BetterThanFiction Productions, Inc. She has directed, produced, and written ten documentaries for WNET, NY and other PBS stations around the country; more than 20 hour-long and two-hour programs for Dateline NBC; and web content for a wide variety of corporate and non-profit clients. Her films have screened at more than 80 festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival. Julie has won three New York Emmy Awards since 2012 and the Individual Achievement Award for Best News Producer from American Women in Radio and Television. A former longtime NBC News staff producer, Julie still does consulting projects for NBC. She graduated from Colgate and holds masters degrees from Yale Law School and the Columbia Journalism School, where she is now an adjunct professor.

Nadine Natour
Editor/Field Producer

Nadine is editor and field producer at BetterThanFiction Productions, Inc. She produces, edits and shoots both photo and video. She was one of the editors of BTF’s The Sturgeon Queens and edited the trailer for Ndipheilela Ukucula: I Live to Sing. She has edited and helped produce web features for The New York Times and investigative pieces for Dateline NBC. Nadine is a 2012 graduate of the Columbia Journalism School and a 2012 – 2013 News Associate at NBC.

Rich White

Rich is one of the best shooters in the business, with more than 20 years experience working for NBC, ABC, CBS and PBS. He has served as DP on all BTF programs. Other recent projects include: The Teachers’ Salary Project and 9/11′s Deadly Dust, documentaries by Academy Award winning director Vanessa Roth, and a documentary on the life and work of the late artist Elizabeth Murray by Academy Award winning director Kristi Zia.

Paul Barrett

Paul brings to BetterThanFiction 25 years of experience in print journalism. Formerly a special projects reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal, he is now Senior Feature Writer and Assistant Managing Editor at Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine. His work has earned awards from the Overseas Press Club, Investigative Reporters & Editors, and the Society for Professional Journalists. Paul has written four non-fiction books: including the New York Times Bestseller GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun (Crown, 2012) and the forthcoming Law of the Jungle (Crown, 2014). He has degrees in law and history from Harvard, but his most salient qualification is that he is married to BTF Director and Producer Julie Cohen. They live in Brooklyn with Beau the dachshund.
