Alex Lowther, Field Producer
Alex's skills are multifarious. He produces, edits and shoots both stills and video with Canon DSLRs and DV cameras. He develops stories, does research, finds archival materials and converts them to usable formats. He was the editor, field producer, 2nd camera, and translator for BTF's 2011 documentary Pedro Ruiz: Coming Home, and the field producer for The Unforgettable Hampton Family. He has edited and helped produce two national PBS news magazine features and produced and edited a short film selected to the Extremely Shorts Film Festival in Houston. He has also edited, shot and field produced BTF internet features and webisode series. Alex joined BetterThanFiction out of the digital media program at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism and a multimedia internship at The New York Times. He did his undergraduate work at Colorado College. In his spare time he writes print feature stories for the The New York Times, Hemispheres, Alpinist and Rock and Ice magazines, among others, and travels inordinate distances to go rock climbing.
